Essentially I'll compare phenomena (ethnic conflict is what I'm interested in currently) occurring in several areas, and draw corollaries. It will either lead to me accept or reject a hypothesis, or cause me raise a new hypothesis to study. I'll be using both quant and qual methods, opposed to some people who are really serious about quantitative methods and think qualitative is worthless and visa versa.

Carpjaws, i do hope to study the conflicts you mentioned in the Philippines in addition to Indonesia. I might compare many conflicts in regions across the world, and attempt to test a broad hypothesis. However, the degree will take around 6 years so I'm bound to change my interests at some point, I'm looking forward to starting my research!

EDIT: This is a really general idea of what I might do. Also, I'm stoked on just being able to surf frequently again! I've been cramming my sessions into little 1 weeks stints back home for too long
