Is wetsand swell report a good judge of the waves at a place like Campus Point?

In general I'd say it's decently accurate, but I've gone to CP when wetsand report says 1ft set waves and it ends up being 3 feet set waves, or I've gone on supposed larger days and it's small. Vice versa etc etc.

Point being, are there any better + more accurate + consistent surf reports out there besides wetsand?

+ Anyone notice the campus point cam quality is decreasing?

And while we are talking about CP? Is it gonna be good today :)?

Since there is the cam there that should always be your primary decision-making tool.

Most forecasting sites' predictions are off a bit in general, either one way or the other...

6.3, 11 seconds, 300 degrees - should be some fun surf out there today!

EDIT: Check that - looks like crap out there today...

Kinda' junky today. So bad that even I didn't go out in it!
Wetsand/Surfline is good for a guide, but my primary source is still driving by, and the camera too.

unless the camera is down as tends to happen from time to time in the winter. . .
Like today ;)

There's a campus point cam?!? Can you give us a link to it?

Also, for the most accurate swell model I know of, type in "CDIP So. Cal Swell Model " on google and let it take you there.

I admit to being overly obsessed with internet surf and weather and spend way too much time doing it. Probably has something to do with having tried predicting the surf for the last 40 years with the rudimentary resources we had back then, basically try to find out what Rae Strange thought and try to find a satelite photo. With that background I find Stormsurf to be both the most accurate for surf and to have the most useful info (he has way too much info but you learn to only read what you need). The Harvest buoy site he has is invaluable to determine whether there is too much north or just enough west to make it work around here.

+1

Stormsurf has some great tools.

www.17ft.com is also worth checking if you're in a hurry.

Rae's an incredible meteorologist. His son Paul is also a good friend of mine..

That new interactive map at the bottom of 17ft.com is pretty incredible. Thanks for that, another place I can spend/waste a bunch of my time! Since it sounds like you know a lot about this, how does he get the swell direction on the regular buoys? That is so important around here because we get all those 310 swells that don't get here and it is nice to know the direction. I guess as long as it is accurate it really doesn't matter, I just didn't know that info was availalbe except for the Harvest type buoys. Merry Christmas or I guess it is Happy Holidays. Looks like we get to surf at least those of us who don't care about getting sick because there is chocolate water out there!

I always watch the goleta buoy and the surface wind map that weatherflow puts out. The short period energy on the buoy is a really good indicator of chop and how clean it will be.

you just have to continue to put the pieces of the puzzle together and someday you'll figure it out...info overload has been the downfall of the surf spot. sure i sound a little bitter but who could blame me...
