As on a few other forums, every now and then I post progress pictures as I build a board...Sortof a how-to/what goes into a board for curious minds.
So, up on the block this week was a 6'0 SDQuad that will be journeying up north with me on my road trip to Seattle (my home town), in hopes of interesting a certain surf shop up there...this board has to be perfect!
Im lacking any shaping photos as i did this one w/out a camera...though there is a video of me shaping a similar board on youtube:

Glassing progress today; bottom opaque done (dark grey), and deck patch opaque done (mint green):
prep the deck layer after the bottom is cleaned up, and make the stupidest frown you can for no reason:

mix up your magic colors (the black and blue were used with white for the bottom color previously):

After all is said and done, the deck patch has gone off (started to cure), and the patch has been cut into the bottom layer...youre looking at something like this :)

today...set the deck logo up, and lay up another layer of 6oz (clear this time) on the deck, this one wrapping around the rails to the bottom. Once thats cured, you hotcoat the board (a painted-on layer of sanding resin)...here is the deck after the hotcoat:

Here is the bottom at this point, reletively untouched since the color was done in the first step, the logo was added on top of the color layer, and capped over with a layer of clear 4oz to keep it flat...you can see the little circle around it in the picture. The top hotcoat wraps the rails onto the bottom, and then gets scuffed up (the light ring around the board) before the finboxes are routed in and the bottom hotcoat is done:

Ian's got it still. I called him this morning and hope to pick it up tomorrow. I'll let you know & get it back to you if I can! [Plus, of course, I get the added bonus of getting to taking it for a test drive!]

woohoo!
stoked that itll be back up here...I dont even think its been in the water yet!
The boards progress has been ever so swift...so swift that I keep forgetting to take pictures between the steps. Its sanded and almost being done pinlined...Ill try to get back to the shop for more pics tonight!
Damn I want to test-drive a quad fish!!!!

Ive got a 6'2 as a personal board if you wanna take it for a spin, and ive got a 5'10 (the paulownia one) as a tester also...let me know if you could float one of 'em!

I'm wondering just how short I can go. Back when I was a kid I had no problem riding really short boards. Nowadays a "short" board for me is about 7'6"...
(I turn 47 tomorrow)
