Anyone know about firewire boards? Have experience riding one?

I'm pretty set on purchasing one (a 5'11 Taj model), wanted to know if someone whose ridden one has any feedback? I hear it's built a little differently...

Go with your normal dimensions, not a hair smaller. They float the same as, or possibly a bit less than, your normal poly board. The Taj model is built with the wide point slightly forward, so it favors a front footed surfer. If you're not a front footer, and you're set on a FW, get the Flexfire.

I repeat: Do not scale down.

I've got a Firewire Alternator and am really stoked on it. I agree with ShShSh, go with your normal specs.

I'll compare the specs, top is my current board, bottom is the taj firewire.

Length
6.2
5.11

Width
18.375
18.1875

Thickness
2.125
2.1875

I'm pretty sure I can scale down, and I'm feeling 6'2 is still too long for me. I'll demo one of the boards before I buy it tho for sure.'

That's a dramatic jump in size. If you're set on scaling down, do it slowly. Baby steps. That dramatic of a jump in daily driver size will probably leave you a bit disappointed. Do it slowly, like down to a 6'1" or a 6'0" at smallest. By going 3 inches in height, you're losing 3" of foam from the middle of the board where it makes the most difference. That's where the volume is, so this is a huge jump. Be careful.

More important questions are: What's your height? Weight? Age & years surfing? Ability? And what kind of board is your 6'2"?

Good luck!

I'm 5'11, 165lbs, 19 years old, surfing for 2+ years now, I'd consider myself at an intermediate skill level, my current board is a clyde beatty jr tri-fin, ur typical thruster.

I've taken your suggestions seriously though, and will demo one before I make any purchase.
