Epic Stearn's Wharf

Back on December 5th - between shooting Rincon and Sandspit - I sat out on the pier and had a burger at Char West (anyone remember the original Char West on State - where Taco Bell now stands?), and watched dozens of surfers catching the biggest set waves from the restaurant -- on the South side of the pier. Yeah, there is a local crew that surfs inside the pier at the "Y", but sometimes when we get a real swell, amazing waves can be found on both sides of Stearn's Wharf.

For instance, waves like this one from a big swell in the El Nino winter of '98:
