Hey welcome!
Posting pics is really simple. Just give it a try.
Click on "Manage Attachments" and then "upload a file from your computer" by browsing until you find the desired image. Click "upload" and then once that's done, close the "manage attachments" window and hit the "Submit Reply" button.
Let's see some pics.
Here's my buddy Carl (another Goletan) hanging with the locals at Rincon the other day. He was kind of freaked at first (until he realized it was a dolphin)...

I'm all for offensive names, but why nuke Mondos? Just think of where all those soft tops would be if they *weren't* at Mondos! Yikes.
Thanks Jon for starting this forum. I am new to the surfing tribe and have had some luck making new friends in the line up (thank god, since all my old friends just scratch their heads as I babble on endlessly about surfing. They don't *get* it.) So I'm hopeful I can meet more of the fabulous folks in this cult of ours.

An avatar is a small picture that appears next to your user name when you make a post. I don't know the rules on this board yet, but you may be able to get one once you make a certain number of post.
Hope that helps!!;)

It's okay.
The User CP is the User Control Panel. It is located at the top left hand corner of your page. Or you can Click here (http://santabarbarasurfer.com/forum/usercp.php). From there you can scroll down about a 1/4 of the way and to your left you should be able to see "Edit Avatar" option. Click it, and you have the option to upload it from your computer or place a URL link and hit Save Changes.
If you need any other help, let me know.:)

I'm new here. I live in Santa Barbara. Brian is my name. I lived in the Philippines for 6 years and can answer questions about it if any are interested. Good surfing there although I didn't surf that much when I was living there. Grew up in Santa Monica.
Many moons ago a went to UCSD. surfed Blacks a lot. I've surfed some interesting places like Fiji and Western Samoa. Been trying to get back in to surfing. Great sport.
That's it. Hope this place works out.
hey gang!
Stan Frantz here.
glad to have stumbled across this site this am. feeling homesick for my old surf haunts, esp. after seeing the massive west swell on the model this am. woo-hoo! get some for me!!!
I was a long-time local SB/goleta surfer. moved to east coast 9 years ago after 22 years in SB. (long story, I'll share later)
I was Dave Johnson's first employee, started out making fins back in Dec. 1977, ended up glassing and everything in between for about 12-13 years. Worked for Dave Puu at one time too and Bruce Fowler briefly.
Learned to surf at Sands, and always considered myself a "local" there, but surfed everywhere and anywhere I could find waves. I know just which secret spot I'd be at this am! (hint: POP, if anyone checks it today I'd love to see a pic.) and if that wasn't doing it I'd be back at El Cap battling the crowd.
anyone that knew me back in the day, feel free to private msg me. I'd love to hear what's up.
say hi to Dave Johnson for me if you see him in the lineup or to my bro, Dave Frantz, still sitting outside on the big days waiting for the cleanup sets!
later
Stan
Welcome Stan!
Dave's my shaper...

Very cool, I wish I could get out in the water more, but those of you out there with kids can relate. Its harder to find the time with little ones at home. Great swell this week, got some long rides at campus.

time to paddle out for a session...caught site of the first set of sbs on the horizon back in Nov '07 which just happened to coincided with my free time, stoked...so, i thought i would, finally, swing around and paddle for a wave and try my hand at "blogging" (in the comfort of my local tribe)...so who am i, i've surfed the county since before the web, surf forecasting and time, i remember an empty 'con, the western gate and beyond when there were truly esoteric surf spots...so i hope the many waves i have surfed around our home town and planet may give me something funny, interesting and, sometimes, stupid to write now and then...so won't know till i swing and go...con mucho gusto

I've been surfing SB since '86 and usually surf solo these days(although I'm hoping to get my kids psyched this summer via a trip to Nicaragua). I been in the area since '79, surfing & camping where ever looks good and mellow. Raised me a long boarder grom who is now 19yrs. Now I'm back to short boarding mostly. Will borrow his 9'0" T.A. once in a while.
Surf contests now and then , filling in for my bro Mike who gave up the ghost
3 yrs ago Feb. in the water at Hobson's reef. I will never be able to match his
aggresiveness towards each and every wave. Everyone seemed to like Mike.
I live and work you know where(my screen name), member of SBSC, help coach SMHS surf team GO ROYALS! Sometimes i'm a grouchy ol' shit in the water, please forgive me, therapy IS helping.
SO, Smile, Wear your sunscreen, and get wet as much as possible. gbb
